Blanket Chronicles

2023 Blanket Report and End of Year Grant

Our Project Linus Humboldt chapter is closing in on the end of another year of community blanket donations to children in need of a blanket hug.  In 2023, our chapter made 482 blankets and we delivered 475 blankets to local agencies working with families and their children.

We met every month this year at Buttons in Old Town and every month I drove off with another stellar blanket haul! The photo below is an example of one of those hauls! 54 blankets came in this month with 41 of those blankets going to children living in local family shelters.

Most of the blankets made are quilts and agency staff continue to comment on the quality of our blanket creations and how much the families and children appreciate receiving them.  At the present time, we work with 14 agencies that receive blankets on a regular basis. Our deliveries range from 5 to 27 blankets for each agency delivery and range in size from infant to large teens!

We wrote a grant to the Christine and Chalmer Berg Foundation in Eureka and received what we requested: $1,000.  That was a delightful December gift. We will spend those funds in 2024 creating more blankets which will comfort local children.

Our Blanketeers have the giving spirit all year long, not just in December. We look forward to another productive blanket year: 2024 here we come!
